About Kuk Sool

You will easily be burning off enough calories to lose at least a couple of pounds of fat every few months, and that’s before you add in the benefits of improving your diet.
Fun & Friends
Classes can be fun, and as you get to know people you can help each other out, practice together, and have a laugh too! Whether you are athletic or awkward, shy or outgoing, energetic or out-of-shape, Kuk Sool is for you. The school also organises optional social nights out, and trips to tournaments either for spectating or taking part.

Self Defence
This is core to every class as you learn how to think instead of panic when threatened, and the traditional Korean martial arts you learn will help you protect yourself and your family.

Gradings
Gradings take place every 12 weeks or so, with the student gradually working towards their Black Belt. Check out our Club Calendar for details.

First it helps to understand the difference between a martial arts style and a martial arts system because Kuk Sool Won is not another style, it is a whole system from Korea.
There are many respected styles, for example, you may have heard of; Tae Kwon Do (also from Korea) which is mostly kicking, Judo (mostly throwing), Karate (blocks and strikes), Aikido (joint locks), etc. and Jujutsu (grappling). Kuk Sool Won, as a system, incorporates all of this with emphasis on each covering every aspect of the Asian martial arts dating from ancient times to present, going far beyond the range of any single martial arts style.
Only Kuk Sool Won as a whole system offers striking, kicking, throwing, grappling, joint-locking, pressure points, animal-style techniques, falling, martial arts gymnastics, traditional Korean forms, body conditioning, healing and weapons training. As such, it has also proven to be an art of choice for military special forces, and military academies.

Traditional Martial Arts System
As a traditional martial art system, Kuk Sool traces many of its roots back to the ancient and prehistoric martial arts used thousands of years ago including Sah Doh Mu Sool [Tribal Martial Arts], Bool Kyo Mu Sool [Buddhist Martial Arts] and Koong Joong Mu Sool [Royal Court Arts].
Kuk Sool with its many facets is performed for self-defense, healing, conditioning, fun, competition, and aesthetic purposes. Kuk Sool is structured to take a practitioner in a logical progression from the beginning all the way up to Master level.
Kuk Sool Won has been actively promoted worldwide by the World Kuk Sool Won Association.
